Spending Time With God In Relational Prayer

Learn how to read God’s Word, pray and talk with Him daily.

What are Devotionals?

Devos, short for devotionals, typically begin with a short, but deep, passage from the Word. You can do this however you want, but we highly recommend using our scripture readings. We have carefully chosen the length of each passage so that there is some real substance to ponder. You can easily get to today’s verses or by using our Lake Samm Church App on your phone, currently available in Apple’s App Store.

As you do your devos, we strongly suggest that you read the Word itself, not one of the many, excellent devotional books. Those books can very valuable for other times, but we want you to experience Him talking directly to you through His Word. That has benefits far beyond any great insights from someone else.

What is S.O.A.P.?

S.O.A.P. is a method we recommend that takes you through scripture in an organized way. You’ll go through a weekly reading plan that will help you understand God’s Word and grow deeper in Him.

Be in Relational Prayer

Then carve out significant time – 15 minutes or more – to simply be with Him in “Relational Prayer.” This is just being with God, talking to Him about whatever is on your mind and heart. It is more about talking with your friend, than it is praying through a list. Ask Him questions, see what comes to mind; talk to Him about something you’re struggling with; in general just talk to Him and expect Him to respond in whatever way He does with you.

This is not something to do when you’re driving, or taking a shower, instead make it a separated time. Typically going for a walk helps get you into His presence.

At the end of your Relational Prayer, feel free to pray through your list.
